A driver employed by Cencora Alliance Healthcare has admitted to stealing over £4,000 worth of Ozempic from the wholesaler.
Peter Daniel, aged 62 and from Croydon, appeared in Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday June 1 having been charged with the theft of more than 30 boxes of the weight loss drug.
Prosecutor Michael A’Herne said Mr Daniel had been seen on CCTV taking the product out of distribution pigeon holes after several customers complained of deliveries being missed between April 17 and May 5 this year.
Police who searched his house found 34 boxes of Ozempic in his kitchen refrigerator, worth an estimated £4,080.
Mr Aherne told the court: “Medication could be dangerous in the hands of someone that doesn’t know how to use it or prescribe it.”
Defending solicitor Mohammed Bismillah said Mr Daniel, who the court heard had worked for the wholesaler for 23 years with an “unblemished” record, had been motivated by his health and not by profit, and that his client used the drug to self-treat an eating disorder.
Mr Daniel’s sentencing is scheduled for July 28.
